We are working on an update to NetSim for CCNA to include FHRP and VPN functionality. FHRP, short for First Hop Redundancy Protocol, is used to provide redundancy up to the ISP. There are several FHRP protocols, of which HSRP (Hot Standby Router Protocol),  GLBP (Gateway Load Balancing Protocol) and VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) are popular and being implemented in our NetSim.

Another addition would be VPN (short for Virtual Private Network) protocol that ensures encrypted tunnel between two end points. There are several types of VPN, of which Site-to-Site VPN and Site-to-Remote VPN are most widely used and being implemented. A Site-to-Site VPN is typically used between two offices (say head office and branch office) where as Remote-to-Site VPN is typically used by mobile commuters or smaller branch offices to connect to the head office.  A VPN, as you might be knowing, encrypts the communication between two end points as defined by the communicating hosts.

Check out for updates.

SimulationExams.com Releases CCENT (100-101) Practice Tests

SimulationExams.com, a leading practice tests provider,  released practice tests for CCENT 100-101 (2013 Objectives). The new CCENT cert objectives include NAT (Network Address Translation), ACL (Access Control Lists), and VLSM. T The exam topics for  CCENT 100-101 include IP addressing (both IPv4 and IPv6), Switch networking using VLANs and VTP, traffic control using ACLs, and NAT. Detailed objectives may found at here.

Notable difference between the older objectives and the new are that the later includes VLSM, ACLs, and NAT. Earlier, these topics were part of ICND2 exam. It may be noted that Cisco has updated its CCNA track of exams recently. CCNA has been renamed as CCNA Routing and Switching. For obtaining CCNA R&S, one needs to pass two exams, 1) CCENT 100-101, and ICND2 (200-101). One can also take the CCNA R and S exam directly by passing CCNA 200-120 exam. Please be aware that there is significant difference between the old CCNA topics and the new 200-120 topics. Several of CCNP topics have been added to CCNA. These include router redundancy protocols, STP operating, etc.

You may download the new practice exams here:

Download CCENT 100-101 (Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician)

Download ICND2 200-101 (Inter Connecting Network Devices 2)

Download CCNA 200-120 (Cisco Certified Network Associate)

Older versions  640-822 CCENT, 640-816 ICND2, and 642-801 CCNA will retire by 30th September 2013, and are still available.

Other practice tests offered include CCNP Route 642-902, and CCNP Switch 642-813

We have recently released a revised version of Cisco CCNA NetSim. CertExams.com CCNA Network Simulator provides a simulated network environment for hands-on practice using virtual routers and switches. The recent revision includes support for Do command, and some debug commands. The “do” command allows running a privileged level command from configuration modes such as interface and global.
The advantages of using CCNA network simulator include the following:

– Lab exercises for hands-on practice.
– Router and switch simulator.
– Simulate Cisco® IOS routers (805, 806, 17xx series, 25xx series, 26xx series, and 36xx series) or switches ( 19xx, 29xx ).
– Connectors available are Serial, Ethernet, IsdnBri, Frame Relay, Fast Ethernet.
– Extensive Lab Manual is provided.
– Support for 300+ router and switch commands.
– Network designer that provides drag and drop feature for inserting devices and connectors. GUI based device configurator.

You can type short form commands in IOS simulator for router/switch commands just like in actual router/switch.

About CCNA Certification:
CCNA Certification is awarded by Cisco Systems on successful completion of qualifying exam(s). CCNA is intended for candidates who have just started working on Cisco ruoters and switches.
The exam objectives covered by CCNA certification include the following:

1. Describe how a network works
2. Configure, verify and troubleshoot a switch with VLANs and interswitch communications
3. Implement an IP addressing scheme and IP Services to meet network requirements in a medium-size Enterprise branch office network.
4. Configure, verify, and troubleshoot basic router operation and routing on Cisco devices
5. Explain and select the appropriate administrative tasks required for a WLAN
6. Identify security threats to a network and describe general methods to mitigate those threats
7. Implement, verify, and troubleshoot NAT and ACLs in a medium-size Enterprise branch office network.
8. Implement and verify WAN links
Other products offered by CertExams.com include the following:

1. CCNA Exam Simulator: The only practice exam that provides complete range of CCNA question types including simlets and simulations.
2. Juniper Junos Simulator for JNCIA
